- A photograph of Captain Richard Brown '14 taken during training at Camp Borden between June and August 1916, before the 134th Battalion embarked for the UK. Sometime after their arrival Brown was sent in a draft to the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders). Richard attended St. Andrew's from 1908 to 1914, and later joined the 48th Highlanders Battalion stationed in France. He served in battles of Ploegsteert Wood, St. Eloi, and Ypres, and was wounded at Zillebeke. He recovered at home and soon rejoined his comrades on the front. He then fought and survived the Battle of Vimy Ridge, which awarded him the Military Cross for actions. However, he was mortally wounded at the battle of Passchendaele and succumbed to his wounds on November 14th, 1917.
