- A headshot of Captain Edward Bath '07 in military dress. Edward attended St. Andrew's from 1905 to 1907, and was well-know for being an incredible swimmer (perhaps even one of the best in Canada). He enlisted as a lieutenant with the 48th Highlanders in 1914. After training he arrived in France and saw his first battle at Armentieres, and then at the second battle at Ypres in St. Julien. During this battle, he was gassed and then was captured by German forces and sent to multiple POW camp. He attemped several escapes with friends, but was caught and re-captured each time. He was eventually released due to suffering from chronic bronchitis and long-term health issues from being gassed years earlier. He later died of influenza on November 23rd, 1918 in an English hospital.
