- Public Description
- An ink caricature of math teacher and football coach John Del Grande along with multiple other teachers and students from 1950. This drawing was done by student John Stapells '50 as a gift for John. John Del Grande taught at St. Andrew's from 1949 to 1961, and was lovingly called "Stump" by the students due to his smaller stature. He was known as a brilliant mathmatician, first teaching at St. Andrew's and later going on to teach at the University of Toronto and publish over forty books. He is also the winner of multiple national and international awards in his field. Tony Stapells '50 was a great lover of art while at St. Andrew's, and went on to become a teacher himself. After graduating from SAC, Tony attended OCAD and later taught Adult Art, oil painting, and sculpture since 1962 in Toronto at various schools. His art has been exhibited in Canada and the U.S., and has been commissioned to do works for the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Canada Trust building in Toronto. He is also director of The Ontario Archaeological Society.
